Business Unit Manager

Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies, a division of a global leader in shot peening processes, seeks a Business Unit Manager to manage our Milwaukee, WI site operations team. Working in a Job Shop Service environment, reporting to the Senior Business Unit Manager, the position will be responsible for coordination of the site's process operations activities including: general management of the facility, managing site P&L, up to $6 million in sales, executing strategic goals and objectives, coordinating all resources to meet the accelerated product development needs of our customers, which include operations and administrative activities and oversite, performance management and training and development of direct reports and shop personnel. The facility has 35 employees onsite.

Your Challenge:

  • Participate in administering company policies and developing long range goals and objectives.
  • Directly or through delegation manage company safety committee.
  • Responsible for overseeing daily HR functions related to salaried and hourly / production employees. This includes performance management and training of supervisors and leads.
  • Oversee plant production, operations, quality, engineering, EHS and other related functional department supporting personnel.
  • Delegation of authority to, and management of, shift and departmental supervisors.
  • Train, mentor, oversee, and assist supervisors with disciplinary actions with approval from Senior Business Manager and Corporate HR office. Assist with terminations and disciplinary action when required.
  • Manage company policies and procedures for improving Risk Management for health and cost containment.
  • Resolves problems in conjunction with managers of the following functional areas: manufacturing, quality assurance, engineering, and sales.
  • Involved in translating customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of company products.
  • May develop operations-related plans, budgets, and policies and procedures.
  • Maintains safety and regulatory compliance relating to the production facility.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Your Expertise:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering and/or related discipline required.
  • Over 10 years of experience in a shot peening, job shop service or related manufacturing environment required.
  • Background in metal working, metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, and or plating/coating a plus
  • Experience in EHS, AS9100, ISO9001, FAA Overhaul and Repair, and ATF License and NADCAP a definite plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with knowledge of MS Office.
  • Strong initiative & leadership, analytical problem solving.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to delegate and manage responsibility for a wide range of activities.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of production process and shop design
