Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division, which includes the product brands of Arens Controls, Penny & Giles, PG Drives Technology and Williams Controls, is an excellent supplier in providing components and sub-systems which enable customer specific solutions for on- and off-highway vehicles. These include medium- and heavy-duty trucks, buses and motor coaches, construction and agricultural vehicles, materials handling, and other specialty vehicles, as well as sophisticated wheelchairs and scooters for medical mobility.

We develop and manufacture electronic throttle controls, transmission shifters and sensors for commercial off-highway equipment and heavy trucks, helping to address the long-term trend towards attaining higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions. We also supply operator controls and advanced motor controllers for hybrid and electric vehicles, such as buses, forklift trucks, pallet stackers, wheelchairs, and rehabilitation chairs.

The Opportunity | Electronic Engineering Technician

Reporting to the Electronics Engineering Supervisor, the successful candidate will under minimal supervision support engineering activities for new product introduction projects relating to electronic assembly and test of concept, prototype and qualification units through to release to production.

Your Challenge:

  • Working from schematics and diagrams, follow defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting functions.
  • Supporting PCB and schematic design using Proteus or Altium CAD packages whilst under the direction of an Electronics Engineer.
  • Liaise with external test houses to set-up and witness product testing as appropriate (e.g., EMC and/or Environmental)
  • Modification of electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of an Electronics Engineer.
  • Project Management - Delivering your aspects of the project to agreed timescales.
  • Assist in the preparation of test schedules and test reports.
  • Assist in the construction and test of engineering test samples.
  • Assist in the construction and test of engineering test equipment.
  • Assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.

Your Expertise:

  • HND in a related area or equivalent related experience.

The following skills are considered desirable:

  • Soldering capability to IPC certification standard.
  • Knowledge and experience of potentiometric and/or hall effect position sensors
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the off-highway vehicle market e.g. PPAP etc.
  • Great communication skills and full computer literacy with experience in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience with the use of electronic diagnostic equipment, such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies and DVMs.
