Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer II position actively participates in the implementation, delivery, maintenance and administration of Williams Controls' Quality Management Systems (QEMS). This role helps to ensure manufactured products meet internal and industry quality standards as they relate to defects and operational problems.

Location: Arlington Heights, IL

Your Challenge:

  • Actively interfaces with multiple function teams and participates in quality initiatives on issues related to: New Product Introduction (NPI), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) reviews, development and review of Process Flow Diagrams, measurement study analysis, and process capability studies. Presents all these activities in a concise manner in the form of a Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) to customers for their review and approval.
  • Participates in on-going oversight of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). Request, and reviews PPAP from suppliers, ensuring supplier PPAP's meet all internal quality assurance specifications and standards. Compiles and submits PPAP reports on behalf of clients in an accurate and timely manner. Actively participates and makes recommendations in the review of internal PPAP's to assure accuracy and internal quality standards.
  • Participates in the review of Non-Conforming Materials (NCM). Authors and issues Corrective Action Reports (CAR). Participates in Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Facilitates continuous improvement activities, performs failure analysis and implement containment actions in order to prevent defects from recurring. Provides general production and internal support on manufactured items, ensuring advice given is aligned with internal quality and industry best practice standards.
  • Participates in the management of quality problems with customers on issues related to NCM's and other related quality issues. Effectively listens and records customer problems and complaints. May issue return authorization and CAR's, when necessary, to help customers get their problems solved. Aids the production departments with root cause/corrective action processes, ensuring problems are addressed in a timely manner. Participates in the development of effective implementation of containment actions in order to prevent future defects from reoccurring. Completes required records in Integrated Quality Services (IQS) to assure accuracy of information and communication to the organization. Facilitates the return of defective materials to appropriate suppliers and ensures CAR's are reviewed, implemented and effective.
  • Actively participates in sustaining engineering and general quality support by constantly improving existing products that are problematic and need input from quality. Ensures problematic issues are addressed and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Makes recommendations for customer issue management and support by reviewing and responding to customer factory defect complaints and compiling customer requested quality information.

Your Expertise:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing, Mathematics, Business Administration or related major.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience, in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive or commercial vehicle industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques an asset
