Exlar, a business unit of the Curtiss-Wright Industrial division, designs, manufactures and sells a broad portfolio of precision electro-mechanical actuators for automation of machinery in global markets including defense, automotive manufacturing, energy and general industrial automation. This position reports directly into the business' Ground and Naval Defense segment, a fast paced and growing segment that provides commercial actuation products, systems and engineering services into mission critical defense applications.

The Opportunity | Sr. Applications Engineer

Based on your expertise in applying electro-mechanical actuation and associated motion control products, provide pre and post-sale technical support to Exlar customers and channel partners.

Participate and contribute to sales presentations, product training, and support of existing customers to help drive additional business growth and customer satisfaction. Using proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills, assist the organization in resolving customer issues and assist product management, engineering and operations in assessing new opportunities.

Based out of Exlar's facility in Chanhassen, MN, with occasional domestic and international travel, the position will interface directly with Exlar customers and channel partners in support of our products use in a wide variety of industries spanning factory automation, test & simulation, medical, mobile and specialty equipment applications.

Your Challenge:

• Pre-sale, post-sale technical support, as well as troubleshooting for all Exlar servo-based control and electro-mechanical products
• Consult with global sales channel, OEMs, and end users to support Exlar products interfacing with 3^rd party servo drives, PAC/PLCs, HMIs, DCS and various control systems in a variety of applications
• Assist in working with industrial robot manufacturers to integrate Exlar products into robot software packs to support automotive manufacturing applications, e.g. spot welding, part-picking, and dispensing
• Provide on-site customer support for complex applications, commissioning, and or troubleshooting
• Stay abreast of new technologies from major industrial automation players
• Specific sizing and selection of Exlar actuators for customers
• Present product and market specific content to customers
• Create and facilitate product training on an on-going basis
• Write application notes and technical tips for all products as a guidance for customers
• Interface with Exlar product management, engineering and operations to determine best solutions for customer requests and aid in issue resolution.
• Aid in the development of Exlar products to meet emerging industrial automation trends, e.g. Industry 4.0, IoT, etc.

Your Expertise:

• Successful completion of 4-year technical degree or 2 year technical degree with 2+ years of factory automation or motion control experience
• A minimum of 2 years of industry related experience. Factory automation or motion control preferred.
• Working knowledge and experience with servo and servo control products
• Working knowledge of various servo drives, HMI and PLC configuration and programming packages i.e. Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Nidec, Copley, Elmo, etc.
• Working knowledge and understanding of field-bus communications used in industrial automation, g. EtherCAT, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, CanOpen
• Ability to work effectively over phone/teleconferencing with a variety of sales personnel and customers in both a sales and support capacity
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Capable of conducting technical activities with minimal direction
• Travel up to 10-15%
