This position is an executive leader who must possess a deep technical understanding of our products and in key circumstances be capable of representing the company and demonstrating our products' capabilities to executive leadership in key programs. As our Senior Director of Systems Engineering you will work closely with our executive team, including the CTO, Director of Hardware Engineering, and Director of Software Engineering.

Our Senior Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for ensuring that PacStar's staff, products and solutions are prepared to meet the current and future needs of our customers and execute the management team's vision in new and expanded markets.

Your Challenge:

  • As a member of the Executive staff, contribute to operational and engineering direction for PacStar.
  • Build and lead a team of engineers to evaluate technologies for technical capability, security, and suitability for DoD requirements and inclusion in future PacStar Integrated Solutions; taking best of breed solutions through development to delivery.
  • Work closely with and mentor the existing Network Engineering Manager to manage existing projects and team.
  • Manage PacStar's Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) and Modular Data Center (MDC) line of products and solutions.
  • Represent PacStar as a subject matter expert and present PacStar's offerings to customers and partners through a variety of venues in diverse technical areas including Networking, CSfC, Security, Edge Computing, Storage, AI/ML, etc.
  • This is a hands-on position; as Senior Director of Systems Engineering you will be expected to contribute directly to the integration of technologies from 3rd parties with PacStar technologies to create compelling demonstrations. 3rd party technologies may include hardware, software applications, virtual network functions, hypervisors, radios and other wireless transport technologies, peripherals, cybersecurity tools, and more.
  • Develop and manage demonstration system development to hit scheduled targets, report on progress routinely, identify roadblocks or needed resources early to ensure schedule success.
  • Evaluate customer needs, ROI, and competitive factors for new product development; champion innovative new offerings and ensure that development aligns with PacStar hardware and software offerings.
  • Establish and manage partner relationships with key software vendors: VMware, Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto, etc.
  • Conduct demos at trade shows, customer visits, and online.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to ensure product designs meet customer requirements and are aligned with PacStar's Integrated Solutions roadmap.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering and QA to ensure that PacStar IQ-Core software supports customer needs and supports ease-of-use for PacStar Integrated Solutions.
  • Work with Sales, Engineering, and Professional Services to productize our offerings
  • Manage department budgets and project development roadmap for PacStar integrated solutions.
  • Maintain product quality and customer satisfaction with PacStar products and solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Expertise:

  • 10+ years Systems Engineering, Network Engineering, or Product Development experience required.
  • 5+ years managing and mentoring engineering staff experience required.
  • 5+ years independently leading projects experience required.
  • Must possess at least a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Experience partnering with 3rd parties to create integrated hardware and software solutions.
  • Experience with government/DoD customers and prior military experience is highly desired.
  • Experience with security requirement frameworks such as: STIG, PCI, HIPPA, NERC-CIP, CMMC is highly desired.
  • An advanced understanding, or the ability to quickly acquire an advanced understanding of Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) capability packages, implementation and registration is required.
  • Expert level engineering experience with network engineering concepts including virtual private networking (VPN), public key infrastructure (PKI), and encryption is required.
  • Advanced understanding of virtualization, storage, hybrid cloud systems, and network and systems integration is desired.
  • Fluency in Hyperconverged Infrastructure, virtualization, and traditional NAS and SAN operating systems is desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Windows Server required.
  • Experience with PC hardware and troubleshooting required.
  • Experience with Networking Devices required (Switches, Routers and Firewalls).
  • Experience with VMware Vsphere (ESXi) in a production environment required.
  • Experience with Linux and Linux based applications required.
  • Industry recognized certifications strongly desired:
    • VMware VCP
    • Cisco CCNA/CCNP
    • Microsoft MCSE
    • Security+, CISSP
  • An understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering disciplines, and an understanding of development processes and lifecycles for these disciplines, is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Independent Professional that can perform job assignment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds of test equipment at least 40 feet.
  • Attention to detail and quality orientation a must.
