The Opportunity | Senior Purchasing Manager

Reporting to the Director Supply Chain, the Senior Manager Purchasing is responsible for leading an experienced team of senior professionals responsible for the timely, cost-effective procurement and management of materials.

Responsible for managing a global supply base that supports the Curtiss-Wright COTS Solutions business unit's AS9100D certification and end-customer quality and delivery needs, this position is also pivotal to ensuring continued strong financial performance contributing to revenue, margin, and working capital achievement.

Major Accountabilities /Deliverables:

  • Provides strong leadership, guidance and direction to Purchasing staff, establishing team and individual development plans and performance goals that align with company objectives and the Annual Operating Plan.
  • Establishes procurement and stocking strategies working with Planning, Customer Services, Quality and Warehouse teams to provide a closed loop system of material management and supporting revenue/order fulfillment drive while minimizing risk of E&O liability to Curtiss-Wright.
  • Monitors suppliers to schedule and expedite deliveries when required. Works to resolve shortages and missed/late deliveries and serves the team as point of escalation.
  • Ensures compliance with customer and Curtiss-Wright Quality Management Systems, providing front-end terms and contractual oversight as well as back-end supply chain execution and QMS alignment.
  • Working in conjunction Quality, Engineering, Supply Management, and Manufacturing to support supplier selection, performance management, and issue resolution processes to ensure the supplier base meets company needs for cost, quality, delivery and customer service.
  • Negotiates terms and contracts, using creative mechanisms to exceed Curtiss-Wright performance and management expectations.
  • Reports key metrics that measure supplier performance and develops action plans to drive improvement where needed.
  • Leads annual material standard costing exercise, monitoring and providing updates where necessary to enable accurate costing of Curtiss-Wright products.
  • Takes an active role in policy & procedure creation/ implementation, objective setting, and financial budgeting processes.


  • Senior professional with 10 years of business management experience in roles including Procurement, Supplier Management, Contract Management, Program Management, and Planning.
  • University degree in Business Administration, Engineering or a related field (or equivalent).
  • Hands-on, working knowledge and experience with CRM and ERP systems; SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership/Management experience with a Multi-disciplined background or significant exposure to broad scope of functional disciplines including supply chain, manufacturing, and finance.
  • Highly proficient using with MS Office suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing knowledge desired.
  • Experience managing procurement in compliance with AS9100 requirements desired.
  • Aerospace/Military market experience is an asset. Experience with mechanical, electrical related commodities is a plus.
  • Outstanding leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and sustain strong relationships at all levels with direct staff, internal partners, and suppliers.
  • Action-oriented, timeline-driven and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Metrics-driven, with exceptional analytical skills.
  • Strong propensity to operate independently to drive execution and continuous improvement, demonstrating sound judgment of when to leverage executive management.
  • Solid, proven negotiation and contract management skills.

  • Strong understanding of financial fundamentals and reporting practices.
