Firmware Developer

Your Challenge:

  • Port reference firmware code to new Intel processor-based single board computer (SBC) products.
  • Create original firmware code to support customizations and new features.
  • Partner with the IC and firmware vendors for problem analysis and resolution.
  • Define firmware requirements for new products.
  • Design software solutions for firmware requirements.
  • Support and enhance existing product firmware.
  • Apply established development processes and assist in process improvement.
  • Develop test software and execute test procedures.
  • Conduct architecture, design and code reviews.
  • Generate complete and high quality user and design documentation.
  • Provide input and evaluation of new technologies and products.
  • Keep current with embedded software trends and share knowledge with your team.
  • Define work task breakdowns and accurate estimates for project planning.
  • Review and validation of software releases.
  • Reading and understanding IC datasheets, board schematics.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team.
  • Liaise with customers.

Your Expertise:

  • Proficient using the C programming language to solve computing problems.
  • In depth knowledge of the UEFI BIOS firmware development for Intel architecture.
  • Experience with bare metal programing.
  • Experience with board bring up.
  • Experience with ICD/ICE tools.
  • Strong trouble-shooting, problem solving, and software debugging skills.
  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, commitment to quality and achieving deadlines.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices and standards.
  • Focus on writing supportable, portable code.
  • Pride and sense of ownership in his or her work.
  • Ability and desire to learn.
  • Familiarity with OSs like Linux, VxWorks, Windows.
  • Familiarity with any of the following technologies:
    • PCIe, VME, Ethernet, MDIO, I2C, SPI, TPM, non-volatile memories, SATA, USB, eMMC, NVMe
  • Experience in the following is an asset:
    • Intel Boot Guard
    • Secure Boot
    • ACPI
    • Coreboot
    • Das U-Boot firmware development for ARM or Power Architecture
    • NXP QorIQ Layerscape ARM SoC
    • NXP QorIQ PowerPC SoCs (P and T-series)
    • NXP i.MX SoCs
    • ARM v8 architecture
    • Software configuration management tools such as Git.
    • Software work and defect tracking tools such as JIRA.
    • Software test tools and methodologies.
    • Scripting tools and languages such as Python.
    • Requirements analysis and tracking.
    • Use of HW debugging tools, such as Digital Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and DMMs.
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent) with minimum 4 years experience. Co-op experience is applicable.
