The Opportunity | Quality Control Manager
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the QC Manager plans, coordinates and directs quality control programs designed to ensure quality production of our products consistent with established standards and regulations, as well as handling customer and supplier non-conformance issues in a manner consistent with company standards.

Your Challenge

  • Provides leadership and supervision to the quality team, motivates, guides and directs the team to the successful realization of department goals and objectives.

  • Prepares, obtains approval, issues and implements the quality control program and manuals in compliance with regulatory codes, standards, contract, and customer and company requirements.

  • Preparation and submission of all certification and registration requirements for all codes and certifications from the application process through to final certification and renewals as required.

  • Ensures the quality management systems are planned, evaluated, maintained and its efficiency is continuously improved.

  • Leads the quality team effectively and efficiently to reduce the cost of quality, customer concerns and improve quality systems.

  • Manages SCAR and CAR systems, including investigation and research of defects and preventative actions.

  • Responsible for the review, management and execution of quality non conformance issues through to completion.

  • Investigates and administers customer complaints regarding quality. Develops customer quality improvement plan and oversees corrective actions.

  • Performs surveillance of subcontractor's quality programs for determining that Quality program standards are applied to purchase orders for special processes.

  • Travels to vendor facilities to perform audits.

  • Planning, approving and submitting of ITP's (Inspection & Test Plans) for customer approval.

  • Investigates and researches product defects and provides direction on corrective action.

  • Reviews data obtained during all quality activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.

  • Develops, implements and continuously improves inspection programs.

  • Prepares, presents and oversees the Quarterly Management Review process

  • Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality control activities

  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality control codes and standards.

  • Review and compliance of all code standards as they refer to our manufacturing systems.

  • Designs and implements quality training programs for key personnel in conjunction with department managers. Ensures training plans are achieved.

  • Management of receiving, in process and final inspection activities.

  • Management of measure and test procedures, gauge control; calibration; documentation; indoctrination and training requirements.

  • Planning and execution of internal auditing requirements.

  • Ensures all quality functions are being completed accurately and on time.

  • Keeps management team informed of significant issues or developments

  • Measures, maintains and reports on assigned KPI's.

  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of quality standards and provides necessary feedback for positive change (continuous improvement)

  • Establishes standard work procedures for quality control team.

  • Develops 5S standard for the department and leads audits and identifies opportunities

  • Conducts performance appraisals, sets goals and objectives for his direct reports and facilitates performance improvement plans as necessary.

  • Supports continuous improvement and H&S initiatives.

  • Support of the welding management program.

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Directly supervises 5 to 10 employees in the Quality Control Department

Your Expertise

  • Expert level knowledge of quality systems.

  • Strong team player with strong facilitative skills

  • Advanced level knowledge of codes and regulations, ASME Section 1 and VIII, CSA B51 code.

  • Post secondary school education in an engineering or quality related program required.

  • 5 to 7 years experience as a Quality Control Manager in a manufacturing facility

  • Must be knowledgeable and experienced in ISO 9001:2015 quality management system requirements.

  • Ability to create results through internal and external customer service and responsiveness and continuous process improvement.

  • Must be able and willing to travel throughout North America and potentially overseas.

  • Lean/Six Sigma working knowledge and practical experience preferred.

  • Must be computer literate with advanced levels for MS Office products.

  • Working knowledge of NDE processes and personal qualifications.

  • Extended periods of sitting

  • Travel by land and/or air requirement -- valid passport a must.
