The Opportunity | Manufacturing Assembly Engineer


Participates in team-based cross-functional teams to optimize assembly/test process design, product performance, and quality and cost improvements. Creates, justifies, coordinates and implements new or improved assembly methods, test processes, supporting fixtures and equipment. Develops capital plans, plant layout, and material handling/storage methods and equipment. Evaluates and analyzes assembly/test processing costs, trends and constraints. Ensures employee and product safety. Participates in Lean events. Will also support other projects and initiatives as necessary. This position offers the potential for future leadership positions in operations and engineering.


Your Challenge



  • Evaluates assembly & test processes by conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, conferring with suppliers, and soliciting observations from assembly/test operators/production technicians.

  • Develops safe processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing assembly methods and equipment; and conferring with equipment suppliers. Prepares written and graphical work instructions to communicate assembly/test requirements to production personnel.

  • Refines and enhances products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to critical or high-impact areas of production. May lead special projects for a variety of products and processes.

  • Improves assembly/test efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and establishing and implementing "design for manufacture and assembly" plans. Assures process control and reliability.

  • Recommends and implements changes to assembly/test processes by analyzing production needs, labor standards, and material costs, reviewing production schedules, and estimating future requirements.

  • Designs test fixtures and other assembly tools. Trains assembly/test associates and promotes safety related to the work area.

  • Performs root cause analysis of test failures and recommends/implements corrective actions.

  • Leads projects and associated teams to justify and implement capital appropriations including assembly test stands, hydrostatic test stands, supporting fixtures, and other facility related items.


Your Expertise



  • 2-5 years of experience in an assembly/test manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with pressure retaining and fluid-power products desired.

  • Must be experienced in Lean/Continuous Improvement tools.

  • Must have great communication skills and be a team player

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through two years or more of increasingly responsible related experience.

  • Ability to work on a variety of technical problems of diverse scope and complexity where analysis and evaluation of various outcomes require tradeoffs; solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams.

  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Creo or SolidWorks).

  • ERP Business System familiarity including LN, BaaN, SAP, or Oracle.

  • Bachelors degree (BS) in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.

  • Physical Requirements:
