Our "Parvus" Salt Lake City, UT site is part of our embedded computing group within the Defense Solutions division. This group is comprised of the following business units: Parvus, VDS, Data Solutions, Pacstar and Integrated Systems. Together these business units develop a range of aerospace and defense systems including networking systems, mission computers, video management systems, data recording and storage systems as well as Open VPX solutions and avionics.

The Parvus business unit focuses on mission computing and networking (switches & routers) technologies, all products branded DuraCOR, DuraNET, DuraMAR, and DuraWORX on the Defense Solutions website. Customers include major military and aerospace contractors and government organizations.

The Opportunity | Mechanical Designer

Under general direction, designs and analyzes a variety of mechanical systems, equipment and packaging.

Your Challenge

  • Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
  • Participate in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication
  • Provide engineering design and manufacturing training for new product and equipment
  • Assess new and existing product to optimize design efficiency, quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Perform trade studies and design reviews
  • Design and conduct experiments, collect data and interpret results; draw conclusions and reconcile differences between predicted and actual results.
  • Conduct analysis and write analysis and test reports. Include thermal analysis and use of other analytical / modeling tools.
  • Determine technical objectives and develop innovative, practical solutions to advance technical engineering problems
  • Provide technical support to failure investigations and bid responses
  • Develop prototypes of mechanical designs via 3D printing systems

Your Expertise

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 2 years experience mechanical design or manufacturing engineering experience. In-depth university / unpaid project work may count to overall years of experience, depending on complexity.
  • Ability to create models and drawings (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Capable of coordinating multiple project responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform analysis and studies with strong attention to details in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated passion for excellence
  • A team player, cooperative, a person who easily gains trust and supports peers
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent work ethic and professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel & Outlook
  • "Maker" attitude and experience
