The Opportunity | Senior Business Unit Manager

The Senior Business Unit Manager will be an integral member of the senior level management team guiding strategy development and organization execution for the Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies (CWST) Liquid Coatings, a technology division of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. Liquid Coatings helps select the right coatings to meet design challenges, lower the cost of ownership or enhance the performance of products. Selection of the proper coating can enable the use of less expensive metals, improve part wear life and reduce maintenance costs.

Reporting directly to the General Manager of Liquid Coatings, the position has P&L responsibility for multiple coating service facilities (Lombard, IL, Minneapolis, MN, Hartford, CT) and will be accountable for driving the performance objectives of the multiple facilities including revenue growth, profitability, cash generation, customer satisfaction, technology development, operational improvements, and talent development through his/her direct reports.

Your Challenge

  • Managing business unit's P&L, budgetary and financial performance/target requirements with multi-site P&L responsibilities.

  • Participates in high-level business unit decision-making and provided leadership direction to ensure alignment of overall business strategies with corporate goals and initiatives.

  • Working closely with site Facility and Business Unit Managers and divisional sales team, develops annual sales forecast and operating budgets, and identifies, develops and implements strategic plans and expansion initiatives to grow the business and define/implement efficient work processes and procedures.

  • In addition, through Business Unit Site Management, provides senior level divisional leadership and performance management across all functional areas of operations -- includes Manufacturing/Production, Sales, Engineering, Process Development , Quality, Maintenance, Financial, EH&S, Environmental Compliance, and Human Resources activities to achieve divisional goals/objectives.

  • Formulates, recommends, sets and communicates the execution of business unit strategies and site operational objectives and monitors individual sites and overall divisional performance against established performance goals/objectives/targets.

  • Ultimately held responsible for division's safety, governance, and human resource activities; ensures business is operating in full legal compliance with Federal/State and local laws/regulations and in full accordance with environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements, and within established company standards, processes and procedures.

Your Expertise

  • BS Degree in Business or Operational Management or related area required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

  • 8+ years' related experience working within a manufacturing, past-paced, time sensitive environment.

  • 5+ years' direct hands-on managerial experience in a liquid coating or coating service applications and/or a similar manufacturing environment.

  • Good understanding of coatings and coating treatment applications and associated customer-market base a definite plus.

  • 3+ years' experience P&L management of multi-site divisional operations that includes individual site operations consisting of Operations/Production, Engineering/R&D, Commercial Sales/Marketing, Quality, Finance and HR required with solid understanding of financial (balance sheet) principles.

  • Ability to drive high level divisional performance, developing and maintaining customers and personnel relationships at all levels throughout the industry, company and overall operations a must.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to formulate, develop, articulate and set into motion divisional vision/mission, long and short-term strategies, goals and objectives.

  • In depth knowledge of historical industry market trends relative to the business, competitor's products, sales and marketing techniques.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to positively influence and motivate others and foster good relationships.

  • Results oriented and able to establish and successfully lead multi-site operations and sales teams to meet and/or exceed targeted divisional sales goals.

  • Ability to work across multi-site operations to resolve complex and ambiguous business issues in areas such as manufacturing, engineering and other markets /operational areas.
