Curtiss-Wright is looking for Systems Team Lead to join our Avionics Team at our state-of-the-art facility by Bournemouth Airport. Here in Bournemouth, we design and manufacture cockpit voice and data flight recorders as well as air data computers.

The Opportunity

As Systems Team Lead you will have the opportunity to lead a team working on a variety of projects

related to Air Data Computer & Flight Recorder technology. You will bring a proven track record in systems engineering throughout the whole system development lifecycle and be passionate in leading a team and projects. Your Challenge:

  • Managing a team of systems engineers and identify and organise work in accordance with the systems design life cycle
  • Authorising systems design decisions and approve systems life cycle data
  • Substantiate system architecture definitions based on required functionality
  • Where necessary, implement all aspects of the system design lifecycle from requirements capture to product qualification, verification, and certification
  • Ensuring all tasks / work packages are allocated to appropriate resources within the integrated project team and are completed in accordance with the applicable project plan and work package definitions
  • Formal reporting of progress to the project manager
  • Carrying out all developments in accordance with Company procedures
  • Ensuring all hardware, software and firmware developments are aligned to the system requirements.
  • Organising and chairing system level design reviews
  • Providing technical support to subcontracted developments and determine acceptance of subcontracted deliverables
  • Supporting continuous improvement of system engineering company processes
  • Supporting certification activities for company products
  • Setting goals and carry out appraisals of system engineers
  • Providing definition of work packages to support project planning and bidding
  • Providing mentoring and help develop system engineers
  • Controlling account manager for all system development work packages
  • Setting priorities for the system engineers in accordance with the programme and integrated project team priorities
  • Leading the system developments within the integrated project team
  • Designing authority for all elements of the system development
  • Recommending innovation to improve product performance, reduce cost and improve profitability
  • Developing and mentoring the skills and capabilities of the systems development team

Your Expertise:

  • Extensive knowledge of requirements elicitation, management and requirements-based design
  • Proven track record in systems engineering throughout the whole system development lifecycle
  • Educated to Degree/HND level in an appropriate subject or relevant equivalent experience
  • Relevant experience within an aerospace/automotive/medical/safety-critical environment
  • Able to undertake all activities in a disciplined and professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently and persuasively with a wide variety of people
  • Highly self-motivated and the ability to work without supervision
  • Flexible as some out of hours and weekend working may be required
  • Prepared to work off site and abroad if required and when travel permitted

Desirable Criteria:

  • Team leadership experience
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS
  • Knowledge of ARP4754, DO-254, DO-178 and D-160
