Curtiss-Wright is looking for a dynamic and commercially astute Contracts Director to join our global business. We are looking for a qualified professional with a proven track record of providing leadership and strategic direction in the areas of Contracts and Compliance within a global shared services model.

With a complex blend of commercial, compliance, legal, financial, sales and general business management skills this key role has ability to significantly influence (positively and negatively) the financial performance of the business immediately and long-term. The Contracts Director will work alongside Senior Business Leaders and be relied upon to make good commercial calls daily and will have the ability to provide the final call on acceptability of the contractual aspects of the commercial deal.

The ideal candidate will be resourceful and innovative in problem solving, and able to provide strategic direction on contractual and export compliance approaches. You will be providing strategic direction to Senior Business Leaders on balancing compliance requirements with corporate business objectives.

This role can be based at our state-of-the-art facility by Bournemouth Airport, remotely from anywhere in the UK or a hybrid.

Your Challenge:

  • Directing a multi-continent team of experts and senior managers who have overall responsibility for the successful operation of the Division, through the provision of appropriate export, contractual, negotiation and commercial business guidance to SVP/GM, GMs, business unit leaders, sales and marketing staff, program managers and senior management. Leads on contractual strategy to be applied to bids and contract negotiations and part of the team ensuring that project pricing is appropriate. Leads the reviews of commercial and contractual aspects of business alliances, acquisitions & divestitures. Able to draft bespoke commercial agreements from scratch.
  • Establishes and develops contract & export compliance policies and processes at CW Corporation level to ensure achievement of corporate expectations across the Corporation. Ensures that Curtiss-Wrights interests are served and protected through compliance with all company policies, applicable laws, regulatory and customer requirements while balancing corporate business objectives. Key member of the Contracts Council leading the development of CW Contracts strategy. Provides expert contract/legal/compliance advice to business on various matters (including supply chain, HR, management etc.)
  • Develops flexible, adaptive and innovative strategies and processes for use in new business capture and growth initiatives, working closely with the Business Development and Sales. Commercial lead for the Bid Team on high value opportunities (typically $10-100M+).
  • Communicates and translates corporate and business unit objectives and policies to contract & export departments.
  • Is responsible for the implementation of strategic contract & compliance opportunities with the most significant impact to the corporation.
  • As member of the Leadership Team is responsible for the general performance of the business and establishing strategy. May be required to be formal legal company director of subsidiaries of Curtiss-Wright Corporation.
  • Provides career development and training opportunities for the Businesses, contracts & export professionals.
  • Leads complex negotiations to obtain the optimum commercial outcome. Able to negotiate with Customer Legal teams on contract terms. Understands the business case and has an ability to understand financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications in order to deliver the best commercial outcome. Provides sound commercial judgment in program contract claims, variations and disputes.
  • Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters. Recommends, develops and implements commercial and compliance policy making

Your Expertise:

  • Proven tenured work experience, preferably within the Aerospace/Military Environment or technology design and manufacturing field and operating globally.
  • Multi-disciplined background or exposure to several operational disciplines, e.g., program management, manufacturing, project engineering, contracts, customer service & export compliance
  • Expert knowledge of all appropriate ethical and compliance standards regarding contracting & export actions. Strong understanding of compliance issues and resolution.
  • Expert knowledge of FAR/DFAR/CGP/ITAR provisions as well as government and commercial contracting practices
  • Excellent contract drafting skills. Must be able to draft, understand and negotiate the most complex contracts globally in multiple markets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a proven track record in international contracting and negotiation of complex contracts structured to meet corporate objectives. Successful track record of over-delivering against expectations from negotiations. Generally negotiating with customer's Legal Counsel and director-level.
  • Strong commercial bid management expertise.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to direct strategic, operational and tactical responsibilities in a "roll up the sleeves" hands-on culture focused on delivering results
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills in developing and implementing metrics and measurements to evaluate results and drive continuous improvement.
  • Significant contract management and dispute resolution experience. Able to draft and negotiate high value complex claims, variations and commercial disputes globally.
  • Widest range of commercial knowledge to apply on novel commercial problems and challenges globally.
  • Excellent leadership skills to manage a geographically dispersed team of professionals
  • Customer-focused (internal and external) and results driven
