Descripción del empleo

The Opportunity | Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineering position encompasses the "hands-on" design, analysis and testing of electrical circuits and systems used for valve actuation & control as well as diagnostic testing of the same. The scope of activities shall encompass both supporting existing product production-- including resolving component obsolescence issues -- as well as the development of new designs per customer specifications or Product Improvement and Development (PID) R&D efforts.

Electrical circuit designs include solenoid actuators, electronic servo amplifier valve positioners, electro-magnetic systems and associated test and diagnostic equipment. A working knowledge of LVDT and other position sensing devices is required. A working knowledge of Pulse Width modulation (PWM) techniques and circuit design is required.

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for project management from concept through to production release. The position requires customer correspondence, occasional field service travel to domestic and overseas customer sites (commercial power plants, navy shipyards, vendors, etc.) and customer training (at the customer site or at Target Rock).

Your Challenge

  • Design:

    • Analog (passive components, Semiconductors, etc.) and Digital Logic Gate (AND, NAND, etc.) circuit design.

    • A working familiarity with Position Feedback Control Servo system design.

    • Ability to create Schematics, Parts lists and Technical manuals.

    • Ability to create design specifications for and manage outside contract engineering design efforts

    • A thorough understanding of, and the ability to read, manufacturer electronic component datasheets.

    • A working familiarity with industry design and test specifications including MIL-STD 461, IPC and IEEE.

    • Experience in designing for EMI and ESD compliance.

    • A working familiarity with Magnetic theory and circuit design

  • Analysis

    • Use of CAD (Computer aided design) software tools to create and analyze circuit designs.

    • A working familiarity with OrCAD (or equivalent) CAD schematic capture and Pspice simulation is required.

    • Experience with Component Stress calculations, MTBF calculations, Arrhenius calculations and enclosed space heat rise calculations.

    • A working familiarity with Servo system calculations including frequency and stability analysis.

  • Test:

    • Creation of test procedures and specifications for Target Rock and outside testing laboratories.

    • Hand-on experience with using test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, DVM, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.

    • Hands-on circuit prototyping and testing.

    • Hands-on basic Soldering and wiring skills.

  • Optional but desired:

    • A familiarity with RCC-E and IEC standards as they apply to electronic assemblies

    • LabVIEW programming experience

    • A working familiarity with Microcontroller (PIC, Arduino, etc.) circuit design and C programming.

    • IPC instructor or operator certification for IPC620, 610 and J-STD-001

    • Working familiarity with the design of electromagnetic actuators and controllers

  • Additional responsibilities: as assigned by Manager

Your Expertise

  • BSEE or BSEET required, MSEE highly desirable

  • 10 or more years of demonstrated Engineering experience involving electronic circuit design

  • US Citizenship (no dual citizenship permissible)
