Located in Summerville SC, this brand new state-of-the-art facility is approximately 134,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing in relations to machining, welding, assembly and quality inspections.

Product Engineer -- Compressor

Location: Summerville. SC

The Challenge:

  • Support the legacy design of reciprocating compressors and aftermarket parts business through interaction with the manufacturing floor, suppliers, service centers and customers. This includes but is not limited to, upkeep on engineering bills of materials and drawings through processing of Engineering Change Notices (ECN's), quality events and corrective action, digitization of legacy documentation, visits to repair centers and customer sites.
  • Support of existing and new designs or product upgrades within the guidelines for product design that will meet industry, customer (mainly U.S. Navy) and contractual requirements at the most efficient cost.
  • Conduct engineering studies and investigations to determine feasibility of designs changes associated with the installed base of compressors.
  • Define product design requirements in accordance with contract requirements, analyze test results to evaluate and determine performance, design qualities, and operating deficiencies for the product.
  • Review solicitations and design specifications and estimate engineering effort to support them, then provide engineering feedback as needed to support Project Management in the development of proposals.
  • Coordinate with other areas of engineering to assure contractual requirements are met. Conduct product improvement programs toward minimizing costs, improving performance and promoting standardization.
  • Investigate field problems and support failure analysis/root cause and provide corrective action in terms of component redesign, revised operating procedures or maintenance practices. Support also applies to supplier issues.
  • Develop computer programs or perform hand calculations required to support and analyze design concepts with respect to performance and mechanical design. Investigate manufacturing deviations and provide corrective action and repair options for deviated parts.
  • Support other areas of engineering, purchasing or manufacturing as required to support the business including steam turbines and commercial nuclear products.
  • Independently performs assignments that require a thorough knowledge of thermodynamics, machine design, metallurgy, installation, operation and application of air compressors.

Your Expertise:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience in the reciprocating compressor or related industry
  • Ability to create UG drawings, 3-D models
  • Background in Programmable Logic Control (PLC) Systems is a plus
  • Experience in managing projects and working in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Oracle and Team Center driven manufacturing systems/software is preferred
  • Experience in compressor manufacturing/design is an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Tools (Word, Excel, Projects, Powerpoint)
  • Must be a sole US citizen and able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance
  • Firm grasp/understanding of geometric tolerancing and engineering drawings

Travel:

5% - 15% per year dependent upon projects assigned
