Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division, which includes the product brands of Arens Controls, Penny & Giles, PG Drives Technology and Williams Controls, is an excellent supplier in providing components and sub-systems which enable customer specific solutions for on- and off-highway vehicles. These include medium- and heavy-duty trucks, buses and motor coaches, construction and agricultural vehicles, materials handling, and other specialty vehicles, as well as sophisticated wheelchairs and scooters for medical mobility.

We develop and manufacture electronic throttle controls, transmission shifters and sensors for commercial off-highway equipment and heavy trucks, helping to address the long-term trend towards attaining higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions. We also supply operator controls and advanced motor controllers for hybrid and electric vehicles, such as buses, forklift trucks, pallet stackers, wheelchairs, and rehabilitation chairs.

Curtiss-Wright are looking for a EHS adviser to join our state-of-the-art facility by Bournemouth Airport. This new permanent position is your opportunity to join our global organization and make a direct impact at our facility.

The EHS Adviser will be responsible for the development, planning and administering of an effective EHS program reporting on matters concerning accidents involving property damage, serious injuries and the findings pertaining to equipment accidents, incidents and near misses. You will bring thorough knowledge of fundamentals of safety education, industrial hygiene, accident prevention and safety psychology. The successful candidate will ideally have experience managing, reviewing and operating EHS management systems.

Your Challenge:

  • Investigating accidents, near misses, etc. that result from mechanical malfunction, material failure or human error. Identifying hazards and recommendations for preventative measures and corrective action.
  • Maintaining close working relationships with departmental Managers/Supervisors to assure proper support of the safety program at each location.
  • Providing guidance and counsel to employees including structured managerial EHS training.
  • Developing, planning and administering a technically sound EHS programs.
  • Maintaining proficiency in the latest industrial technical and engineering EHS practices, planning, initiatives and requirements.
  • Developing and overseeing a continuous EHS educational program and safety awards program to enhance division employees' interest in both on‑and off‑the‑job safety.
  • Serving as an advisor to the Senior Management Team. Monitors Division compliance with local/national EHS regulations.
  • Ensuring that the business is competent regarding legislative requirements and assures the business is compliant to prevent litigation from enforcing authorities.
  • Developing and embedding programs to enable worker participation within the EHS framework.
  • Ability to operate with senior management teams to enable the business to operate at world class EHS strategies.
  • Reviewing EHS leading and lagging metrics to maintain PDCA strategic approach. Develop reporting systems and establish remedial review strategies.
  • Providing administration support as required.
  • Ensuring the EHS team works to a problem-solving philosophy with operational management.

Your Expertise:

  • Graduate Member, IOSH or post diploma.
  • Environmental Legislative experience
  • Experience in the development of EHS management systems
  • Strong communication skills to enable a positive EHS culture.
