Curtiss-Wright is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Avionics Team at our state-of-the-art facility by Bournemouth Airport. Here in Bournemouth, we design and manufacture cockpit voice and data flight recorders as well as air data computers. Our Air Data Computers have the world's highest specification pressure sensors while operating in an aircraft environment! They supply altitude and airspeed readings directly to primary cockpit displays and auto pilots. Our recorders survive an 1100°C fire, 3400g shock impact, deep sea immersion at 20,000ft depth for 90 days and retain the recorded data which is then used to identify the cause of a crash. Recorded information includes cockpit audio from both area and personal microphones as well as important flight data (for example angle of attack, mach, rudder position etc.). The Opportunity

Curtiss-Wright is looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Avionics Division. With a proven background ideally in aerospace/automotive or medical environment you will have experience working in a safety critical environment. The successful candidate will have be experienced in embedded digital and analogue design, have the ability to prioritize, and be passionate about their work.

Your Challenge

• Participating individually and as part of an integrated project team in the design of the Company's products. At times leading a small project team.
• Ensuring allocated tasks are completed in accordance with the applicable project plan.
• Reviewing job processes to achieve continuous improvement.
• Ensuring all actions are in accordance with Company procedures.
• Writing formal design documentation. For example, hardware requirements specifications, hardware conceptual design documentation, hardware test specifications and test reports
• Maintaining current knowledge within your area of technical specialisation and ensuring the benefit of this knowledge is realised within your design solutions.
• Undertaking new technology evaluation and introduction in product designs.
• Accepting technical responsibility for allocated design tasks.
• Attending and actively contributing to the effective operation of applicable design reviews.
• Assisting Production Engineering in the introduction of equipment into manufacture in a cost effective and timely manner.
• Company 'expert' in key products -- may represent the Hardware function internally and externally.
• Implementing all aspects of the electronic design and development process, from initial concept through to the completion of sealed data packs.
• Liaising with software engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing and sales to ensure product is fit for purpose, cost effective and reliable.

Your Expertise:

Essential Criteria:

• Educated to Degree/HND level in an appropriate technical subject.
• Relevant experience in embedded digital and analogue design within an aerospace/automotive/medical/safety-critical environment.
• Familiar with small Microprocessor and microcontroller systems.
• Familiar with Schematic design using ORCAD or similar package.
• Familiar with Op Amp level analogue & DC-DC PSU design.
• Familiar with Design for EMC.
• Some FPGA design and simulation (e.g. Modelism) in VHDL.
• Flexible and able to complete Environmental Testing to standards such as RTCA/DO-160, including detailed test specification and report writing.
• To be a team player with good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently and persuasively with a wide variety of people.
• Excellent organisational skills and have the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Highly self-motivated and have the ability to work without supervision.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
• Knowledge of DO-254.
