The Opportunity | Shop Planner

Under minimal supervision, plans, schedules, coordinates materials. Develop and maintain the material and production plans utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning system. Initiate requisitions for the procurement of purchased material, review the manufacturing prerequisites, authorize and release work orders to the shop.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops, maintain production plan and data utilizing the ERP system. Interact with the Production Supervisors to ensure appropriate actions are taken.

  • Initiate requisitions to Purchasing for the procurement of material and services in accordance with MRP. Ensure that the items are released for purchase and planned for delivery on schedule and communicate with the purchasing agents as required concerning scheduling and delivery.

  • Create discrete jobs in accordance with MRP.

  • Release and generate storeroom picks to have material picked in accordance to manufacturing requirements.

  • Coordinate changes to the manufacturing bill of material based on design engineering changes.

  • Determine optimal lot sizes for manufacturing items and the time phases material plan for purchased items.

  • Initiate all systematic releases associated with the Manufacturing Planner position including material transfers, conditional releases, shipping documentation and routing changes.

  • Support project closeout activities by resolving issues to close discrete jobs and open inventory.

  • Monitor material non-conformance and take actions to adjust plan accordingly.

  • Monitor the manufacturing pre-requisites to ensure timely completion to support the manufacturing plan. Participate and provide required information for project team readiness reviews.

  • Provides direction and leadership for lower level employees.

  • Work in cooperation with Manufacturing Control Planners, Production Control Supervisors and Manufacturing Operations for work in process to resolve issues and maintain product flow on assigned projects.

  • Maintain and communicate accurate status of work in process from time to initial introduction up to shipment, including all outside operations.

  • Provides input to management regarding problems such as scheduling problems, material shortages, design changes and backlogs.


  • 4-6 years of stockroom, expediting, and capacity planning experience

  • Materials management and manufacturing planning / scheduling experience

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with knowledge of ERP, MRP, MS Office.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a similar or related field preferred

  • Must be a sole US citizen and able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance
