The Opportunity | Buyer

The Buyer is responsible for soliciting quotations from a base of qualified vendors, placing purchase orders, follow-up and expediting placed purchase orders to meet established schedules. The individual is also expected to solicit support as necessary from other departments to resolve questions or problems.

Your Challenge

  • Principal responsibility is for the buyer to know the value of what is being purchased and ensure that the purchase meets required schedules within the budgeted guidelines.

  • Works independently with minimum supervision.

  • Individual will be negotiating the purchase order terms with regard to quality and cost savings.

  • Able to interact with various vendors and other departments.

  • Must be diligent with vendor follow-up and expedited promised deliveries.

  • Must be organized, detailed oriented and possess time management skills.

  • Responsible for periodic visits to vendors.

  • Computer knowledge with the Windows, Oracle preferred.

  • Responsible for achieving revenue forecast.

  • Upto 10% domestic travel may be required required.

Your Expertise

  • A minimum of five (5) years work experience as a buyer.

  • Excel experience required, Oracle ERP knowledge is a plus.

  • High School degree required.

  • College degree preferred in Business Administration, or equivalent work experience in manufacturing.

  • Experience with castings, forgings, bar stock, or machining services is highly desirable.

  • Previous experience within a military defense unit highly desirable.

  • FAR/DFAR knowledge is an asset.
