Designer

Under direct supervision, prepares working plans, detailed drawings and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of moderately complex components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions and rough or detailed sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes, using computerized equipment (e.g. CAD/CAM).

Your Challenge:

  • Creates design models and finished drawings, performs dimensional calculations and tolerance studies, revises drawings as required.
  • Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials and quantities to be used.
  • Develops complete layout and engineering drawings of a variety of components and assemblies such as schematics, interconnect lists, parts breakdown, printed circuit board layouts, wire lists, etc., from notes, rough sketches or general instructions of engineers and designers. Creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by engineering.
  • Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.
  • Determines scaling, inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations and sectioning.
  • May use special techniques in schematic drawing, isometric orthographic, perspective projection or other techniques of technical illustration.
  • Contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or manufacturing operation. Working knowledge of tolerances, materials, finishes, etc.

Your Expertise:

  • Associates Degree or completion of technical training
  • Experience with engineering, machining and/or fabrication
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems.
