The Opportunity | Learning and Development -- Professional & Leadership Training

We are looking for an Employee Leadership and Development Specialist to join our team! Are you an experienced instructional designer and trainer that has demonstrated the ability to manage, develop, and deliver training that utilizes multiple learning methods? Do you have experience with leadership and employee development training and curriculums? Primary Functions of the Position:

The Employee Leadership and Development Specialist reports to the Director and works with professional employees, managers, and supervisors to assess job skills and competencies to build and coordinate training to increase job knowledge, productivity, and knowledge transfer. Responsible for leadership and management development and the reinforcement of our Leadership Expectations. Assist with the building and managing of departmental training curriculums ensuring consistency across the business. Coordinate onboarding for professional employees. Lead the Learning Council. Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives through the development, delivery, and maintenance of training. And, serve as an LMS administrator for the business.

Your Challenges:

  • Development of leadership, management and supervisory courses and curriculums.
  • Facilitate (co-facilitate) classroom/virtual-led classes for professional and managerial/supervisory employees.
  • Lead the Learning Council that provides guidance for the business.
  • Responsible for managing of the New Hire Curriculum (NHC) Program; including scheduling of participants and speakers, communications, materials, and delivery and execution of the programs.
  • Work with new hires as needed throughout their NHC program.
  • Identify training needs and gaps in close cooperation with managers/supervisors and employees and create plans to mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and deliver programs that support business needs and mitigate risks.
  • Investigate methods and technology to develop training to better engage and help employees learn and retain information.
  • Work with the L&D team to ensure consistency in training policies, procedures, and standards across learning and development and in the LMS system.
  • Serve as an LMS administrator by monitoring course registration, assist with departmental and functional curriculums, online training, running reports, scheduling and communication of new courses.
  • Identify, schedule, and manage external vendors/trainers and internal subject-matter experts to provide learning and development to employees.
  • Support or lead training related projects, as needed.
  • Keep current with trends, best practices, new technologies, and emerging innovations in the learning and development sphere and implement solutions that develop talent.

Your Expertise:

  • Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter who is able to work independently.
  • Strong organizational, planning, project management, problem resolution, communication, presentation, facilitation, change management and influencing skills.
  • High energy, enthusiastic, with an engaging training style and present in a professional demeanor.
  • Proven expertise in instructional design principles, blended learning strategies and adult learning theory.
  • Able to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, meet deadlines, deliver within an integrated team.
  • Experience with learning management systems and various e-learning software (Captivate) a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Training certifications such as: DDI, Korn-Ferry, Franklin-Covey, Vital Learning, and various types of assessments, etc. is beneficial.
  • Must be flexible to occasionally accommodate training schedule for delivery for off-shift supervisory employees.


  • BS or BA in learning and development, instructional design, industrial or organizational psychology, industrial engineer, business, communications or HR related field.
  • Masters preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in training including facilitation/presentation, design and development of training courses, online training, and training curriculums.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred; must be able to work closely with professionals and employees in a production environment.
