The Opportunity |Staff Engineer (Mechanical Testing)

As a Staff Engineer for the Mechanical Testing Department, you will provide engineering support for all mechanical testing at IMR Test Labs in Portland. Ensure all testing is completed on time and meets customer and internal quality standards. Communicate results, answer questions and provide service to ensure positive customer relationships. Ensure all personnel are trained to internal procedures and all equipment is properly maintained. Interpret results, develop process improvements, write procedures, support internal calibrations.

Your Challenge:

  • Provide engineering support for all mechanical testing
  • Technical expert on mechanical testing and applicable ASTM standards
  • Lead change and Continuous Improvement activities throughout the mechanical department
  • Review purchase orders through the login process
  • Review mechanical test records and final reports
  • Work with customers to develop test plans, quotes, and oversee non-routine testing
  • Write mechanical procedures and ensure proper training
  • Complete audit checklists and ensure areas are always audit ready
  • Provide training and development to mechanical testing personnel. Ensure staff is up to date on new and updated/ revised procedures and standards

Your Expertise:

  • 5-7 years of experience in technical role or commensurate experience, working in a high-volume testing or manufacturing environment.
  • BS in mechanical, materials science, or metallurgical engineering
  • Experience working with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Visual Basic experience a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to medium industrial manufacturing/testing environment. A significant amount of time is spent testing in the lab areas. Exposure to noise, chemicals, high temperatures, and light lifting.
