We are hiring and seeking a specialized Hydraulic Design Engineer with experience in CFD modeling and centrifugal pumps design!

The Opportunity | Hydraulic Analysis Engineer

EMD is searching for a Hydraulic Analysis Engineer with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of five years in the field of hydraulic design and analysis.

Department: Engineering Processes & Resources -- Dynamic and Hydraulic Analysis

Location: Cheswick, PA

The Challenge:

  • Design and analysis of pump main hydraulics

  • Application of CFD modeling to centrifugal pumps, machine internals, and piping systems

  • Define, conduct, and analyze experiments and scale model tests for fundamental fluid phenomena investigation

  • Centrifugal pump design and performance prediction

  • Centrifugal pump testing and performance evaluation

  • Development of test plans for pump acceptance testing

  • Compose and interpret technical specifications

  • Contribute toward patents, technical papers, or articles

  • Perform data analysis using outputs of analytical tools and test data

  • Compose quality documentation and written communications including Engineering Memorandums (EM's), engineering calculations of record, technical letters, and customer deliverables

  • Develop and demonstrate fundamental project planning skills and understanding of cost and schedule implications

  • Provide task-based cost estimates, scopes of work and engineering schedules of high fidelity for the individual job function

  • Understand customer perspectives and inputs and take appropriate responsive actions

  • Perform work in accordance with departmental procedures and instructions, CW policies, and safety, environmental, and security rules and guidelines

Your Expertise:

  • Proficiency in hydraulic design tools (Concepts NREC)

  • Experience with ANSYS CFX and/or Fluent, or equivalent

    • Fluid system modeling using 1-dimensional flow network software

    • MATLAB or similar tool experience

  • Microsoft Office

  • The following experience / credentials would be a plus:

  • Prior industrial experience in design and analysis of centrifugal pump main hydraulics

  • Prior industry experience in design and analysis of pumping systems for the oil industry

  • Experience with hydraulic testing and data analysis


  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Degree would be a plus


  • Must be a US citizen and capable of getting DOD secret level clearance


  • Rarely - Less than 5%
