Mechanical Engineering Intern

Peerless Instrument, a business unit of Curtiss-Wright Corporation, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern at our Farmingdale location. This location develops electronic assemblies for instrumentation and control of equipment used on a variety of platforms. Engineering Intern positions offer a variety of learning opportunities including basic engineering tasks related to design, analysis, test, and integration. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you may be involved with any of the following activities: design of detailed parts and assemblies, structural and thermal analysis, design documentation maintenance, troubleshooting and resolution of hardware issues and hardware integration, component selection, test, and verification. Interns will typically support one or more experienced engineers in performance of assignments, spend time shadowing actual operations, and have unique assignments that support larger projects, as well as experience the day-to-day workings of engineering.

Location: East Farmingdale, NY

Your Challenge:

  • Assisting in design and analysis of electronic assemblies and supporting hardware
  • Performing tests and documenting results
  • Updating required documentation changes
  • Providing Mechanical Engineering support to other departments such as Manufacturing and Quality
  • Evaluation and configuration of new design tools

Your Expertise:

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a team environment
  • Some experience using Microsoft Office Products
  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic lab equipment
  • Experience with 3D design and 2D drafting software
  • Experience with PTC CREO a plus but not required
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to problem solve and apply critical thinking skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Required:
    • You must be 18 years of age by the start of the summer internship
    • You must be a US Citizen or US Person
    • Completion of at least one year of undergraduate engineering studies in a Mechanical Engineering program or similar
    • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Mechanical Engineering degree program or similar
