The Opportunity | Product Development Manager

At Curtiss-Wright, Product Development Managers are assigned the responsibility for the development of specific solutions and are held accountable for the completion of the work on time and on budget. The Product Development Manager leads a group of Engineers responsible for the development of new products/features and the support of the existing product lines. The Product Development Manager will be responsible for organizing support of product development related activities, and ensuring objectives are accomplished to meet production/engineering schedules. They will also work closely with other cross-functional team members in Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), Customer Support, Sales and Marketing. This role is in a fast-paced environment with many variables and daily challenges.

Your Challenge:

• Able to lead/manage a cross functional team
• Supervises the work assignments of highly knowledgeable and motivated project teams of approximately five engineering staff
• Responsible for the career development, training and performance evaluations of staff allocated to the Engineering Team. Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured and monitored, and provides positive feedback on accomplishments
• Establishes effective practices to attract, develop, motivate and retain high calibre staff in a cost effective manner
• Provides guidance to developers as to design protocols, product specification development, desired functionality for new system level features
• Adheres to defined development processes and procedures
• Responsible for moving the product from concept/specification definition through development to production release
• Interfaces with other departments and customers
• Provides technical solutions and recommendations
• Contributes to process improvements
• Prepares detailed development plans and schedules
• Participate in bid/project activities such as developing technical proposals and providing detailed cost and schedule estimates
• Manage 3rd party relationships and coordination of work for cross site initiatives
• Contributes as a member of the leadership team in the C4ISR business unit

Your Expertise:

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent mix of education and experience
• Minimum 8-10 years industry experience
• Proven team management skills
• Self- confident leader capable of motivating and mentoring their staff
• Experience with project scheduling and management tools
• Proven communication skills
• Familiarity with multi-core and multi processor PowerPC and Intel architectures
• Good understanding of hardware and software design processes
• Good understanding of the release of products to manufacturing
• Team orientation and commitment to customer satisfaction
• Good understanding of industry standard technologies such as VME, PCI, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, SATA, PMC/XMC mezzanines, RapidIO and VxWorks an asset
