The Opportunity | Welding Engineer


As a qualified welding engineer, you will provide a leading role in planning, preparing, and executing welding projects. Coordination with customers, engineers, welding supervisor and welders to ensure quality control procedures are in place, adhered to and accurate.


Location: Mississauga, ON


The Challenge:



  • Ensure all work is performed according to the Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Create the plan for the necessary equipment, personnel, and other assets to be in place.

  • Define the welding that needs to be completed for the project and prepare/review the required drawings, documents and procedures.

  • Develop welding procedures, as required, in accordance with various Classification Society rules.

  • Perform follow-up inspections to ensure sufficient quality controls are in place, while also ensuring rigorous adherence to safety standards.

  • Occasional travel will be required to support on-site welding activities.

  • Follow every reasonable precaution to ensure work is performed following the Health & Safety procedures. Immediately report accidents and incidents and participate in their investigations.



Your Expertise:



  • Minimum 7 years of related experience.

  • Sound knowledge of welding standards and applications including but not limited to: CSA W47.1, W47.2, W59, AWS D1.6.

  • Knowledge and experience in;





      • Structural steel, stainless steel, and aluminium alloy specifications.

      • ASTM material certification procedures and tests.

      • Welding procedure qualifications and testing.

      • Heat treatments and stress relieving.

      • Metal manufacturing processes, including: forging, casting, welding and machining.

      • Corrosion prevention approaches in protecting marine equipment.

      • Metal coatings (nickel, chrome, anodizing).





  • Welding or Materials Engineer with Bachelor of Science degree.

  • Registered with PEO (Professional Engineers of Ontario).

  • Registered as a Welding Engineer with the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Presentation skills are required.

  • Excellent technical writing skills.

  • Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint experience and skills required.
