The Opportunity |Controller


Reporting to the General Manager of the facility, the Controller will provide leadership for the management and reporting of the Company's financial data. Advise Senior Management and Operations of opportunities to improve the financial status of the Company.


Location: Mississauga, ON


Essential Responsibilities:



  • Ensure all employees perform their work according to the Quality Management System (QMS).

  • Controls department budgets totaling $660k, member of Senior Management team responsible for sales of $60m.

  • Sufficient financial integrity to provide high degree of reliance on financial reports.

  • High level of Return on Capital Employed.

  • Provide career development for financial personnel in a team oriented atmosphere.

  • Provide measures of financial and non-financial data to operations.

  • Maximize earnings potential of the Company.

  • Creation of "world class" financial group.

  • Provide negotiation support to Sales and Business Development and Contracts.

  • Supply leadership in the development of the Company's budget and strategic plan.

  • Takes every reasonable precaution to protect the health and safety of direct reports including the:

    • Establishment of safe work procedures.

    • Education of staff and the orientation of new workers.

    • Appointment of competent supervision.

    • Performance of frequent workplace inspections.

    • Immediate reporting of accidents and incidents and participation in their investigations.

Initiation of action required to correct substandard conditions. 


Education/Experience:



  • Graduate from management accounting program, with a university degree. 

Qualifications/Certifications:



  • 10 plus years of related experience in a high technology "job shop" manufacturing environment.

  • Communication, planning and interpersonal skills necessary to function as a member of Senior Management team and to provide direct reports with sound leadership.

  • Excellent business system skills and MS Excel.

  • Development of appropriate and relevant measures of non-financial data.

  • Managing the staff to achieve department objectives simultaneous with encouraging personal development.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in a traditionally conservative function.

  • Elimination of barriers between Finance and other departments to facilitate the interpretation of financial data.

  • Experience with long-term contracts

  • Experience with defense contracts

  • Past experience with ERP upgrades
