Job Description

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join our Santa Clarita, California facility. In this crucial role you will direct, lead and manage a highly technical team of engineering managers and have overall responsibility over the engineering group. With systems, electrical, software, electrical, mechanical, component and specialty engineering groups comprising of 50+ team members, we will look to you to lead this already successful team to further success. 

To do this, you must be a highly enthusiastic engineering professional with an open mind to a technical and organizational direction, possess exceptional communication skills, technical knowledge and presentation abilities.   • To provide leadership to Engineering Line Management to create and foster an environment of successful execution and continuous improvement

  • Evaluate all available Engineering tools and needed resources for development and capability

  • Work with the Sales Team and Operations to help deliver profitable growth through Engineering support on repairs, new product capabilities and customer technical support

  • Travel for in-person technical meetings with customers and partners -- support sales and give presentations to Technical decision makers

  • Expand customer relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities

  • Oversee engineering design and performance specifications

  • Direct investigation of equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, make recommendations and drive root cause determination

  • Estimate costs and submit bids for the department

  • Oversee and lead system architecture development and technical approach strategy

  • Perform personnel functions -- hiring, interviewing, performance appraisals and department manpower analysis

  • Solicit new business and provide technical customer service.

  • Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects -- i.e. internal IRAD/Capital projects 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Seasoned professional with demonstrated leadership experience with 18+ year of engineering experience with at least 12+ years of engineering management experience in engineering, manufacturing or DOD industry

  • Demonstrated progressively responsible management experience in leading an organization and achieving positive results.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing innovative technologies.

  • Strong understanding of system engineering concepts and systematic problem solving skills

  • Well versed in the latest rugged/embedded technologies commonly utilized in the defense/aerospace industry

  • Strong debug/integration/troubleshooting experience -- act as a leader and a sounding board for the department

  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with customers, management and peers both internally and externally.

  • Excellent communications skills and overall organization knowledge are required to develop plans and policies consistent with Company policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated analytical and attention to details/skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate change and is able to "sell" the organization on change.

  • Proven experience in continuous improvement.

  • Track record of producing results, meeting financial targets, and leading product development teams.

  • Influence and establish engineering best practices through solid design decisions, processes, and tools. 


  • Bachelor degree in the technical field (Electrical / Systems / Aerospace Engineering)

  • Master Degree in a technical field and/or MBA is a plus.
