RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Port reference Firmware code to new Intel, ARM, and PowerPC processor-based single board computer (SBC) products

  • Create original Firmware code to support easy customizations and value-add features.

  • Partner with the silicon and Firmware vendors for problem analysis and resolution

  • Define the Firmware requirements for new products

  • Design software solutions for the Firmware requirements

  • Support and enhance existing Firmware

  • Apply established development processes and participate in process improvement

  • Conduct architecture, design and code reviews

  • Generate complete and high quality user and design documentation

  • Provide input and evaluation of new technologies and products

  • Keep current with embedded software trends and share knowledge with your team.

  • Define work task breakdowns and accurate estimates for project planning

  • Reading/understanding IC datasheets, board schematics

  • Assist in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team

  • Liaise with customers


SKILLS



  • Proficient using the C programming language

  • In depth knowledge of one of the following:


    • UEFI BIOS firmware development for Intel architecture

    • Das U-Boot firmware development for ARM or Power Architecture




  • Experience with bare metal programing

  • Experience with board bring up

  • Experience with ICD/ICE tools

  • Strong trouble-shooting, problem solving, and software debugging skills

  • Familiarity with any of the following technologies:

    • PCIe, VME, Ethernet, MDIO, I2C, SPI, TPM, non-volatile memories, SATA, USB, eMMC, NVMe.





  • Familiarity with OSs like Linux, VxWorks, Windows

  • Focus on writing maintainable and portable code

  • Pride and ownership in his or her work

  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills.

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Strong responsibility and commitment to quality and achieving deadlines

  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices and standards

  • Experience in the following is an asset:




    • Intel Boot Guard

    • Secure Boot

    • ACPI

    • coreboot

    • NXP QorIQ Layerscape ARM SoCs

    • NXP QorIQ PowerPC SoCs (P and T-series)

    • NXP i.MX SoCs

    • ARM v8 architecture

    • Software configuration management tools such as Git

    • Software task management and defect tracking tools such as JIRA

    • Software test tools and methodologies

    • Scripting tools and languages such as Python

    • Requirements analysis and tracking

    • Use of HW debugging tools, such as Digital Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and DMMs
