The Opportunity | Business Unit General Manager


As General Manager, you will be accountable for the overall business strategy and execution for Curtiss-Wright's Exlar Business Unit based in Chanhassen, MN with oversight of global manufacturing operations, subsidiaries, channel partnerships and sales . The successful candidate will be a strategic leader with customer focus and leadership attributes to inspire talent, drive growth and meet the top quartile financial performance objectives of the organization. Drive success with your committed teams by providing robust business processes, continuous improvement, managerial tools, and agile financial controls.


The GM will be accountable for obtaining the performance objectives of the company including revenue growth, profitability, cash generation, customer satisfaction, technology development, manufacturing excellence, lean implementation, business development, strategic planning and talent development through his/her direct reports.


As the Exlar business unit leader, you will be an integral member of the management team guiding strategy development and organization execution. He/she will report to the Sr. Vice President Industrial Division of Curtiss-Wright and participate as a member of the division leadership team. He/she will have full P&L responsibility within this high-performance business unit.



Key Accountabilities



  • • Have full management responsibility for all business operations (P&L and program performance). Immediate task will be to assume control of the business; familiarize him/herself with the company, its activities, customers, current strategy, operating plans and policies

  • • Understand and expand the current value proposition, strategies, and operating plans and execute the immediate and longer-term growth actions.

  • • Oversight of global manufacturing and sourcing operations to ensure minimum cost, high quality and on time fulfillment of customer orders.

  • • Ensure tight control is maintained over business performance and that operating management responds quickly and effectively to any problems or adverse trends

  • • Be responsible for innovation, new product development and R&D. Insure that IP of the business and the value of Curtiss-Wright in its chosen markets are highly regarded.

  • • Have accountability for establishing and meeting commitments for on-time, on-budget investments, organizational changes, capital improvements, and expansions of the business.

  • • Provide input to process improvement initiatives - leads and participates in corrective action teams

  • • Proactively resolve technical, people, and operational issues to ensure success of the team and consistent production of products

  • • Ensure product branding strategies are developed and implemented to ensure sales tools and promotional material is available for product launch

  • • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, channel partners, and 3rd party sales affiliates

  • • Ensure compliance with company standards for revenues, efficiencies, cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete on-time delivery

  • • Manage and insure compliance with local and regional regulatory bodies

  • • Develop the talent in the organization that includes a strong succession plan and drives top quartile engagement of the global business unit workforce

Education & Experience



  • A Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering; MBA preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in B2B industrial markets, with at least 5 years in an senior leadership role

  • Proven track record of managing in a multi-site, global ,sales, design and manufacturing organization

  • • Successful track record of managing Profit & Loss

  • • Experience managing regional subsidiaries and legal entities. And/or experience managing integration or operation of 3rd party joint ventures.
