The Opportunity: Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for all facets of Human Resources including training & leadership development, employee engagement, employee relations, and will assist with staffing, compensation & benefits, and health & safety. This position is located in Ottawa. The position will require limited travel. The position will report to the head of HR for Defense Solutions.


Responsibilities



  • Support senior management in implementing the organization's business strategy and objectives, advises management on their operational and business decisions, and make recommendations to achieve objectives

  • Responsible for the administration of the performance coaching and salary administration programs to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within the organization. Will apply compensation benchmarking, provide thorough analysis of results, prepare recommendations and action plans to address identified gaps. Responsible for managing annual variable compensation plans for the business unit.

  • Responsible for the training and leadership development initiatives required at the business unit.

  • Assist in the administration of the pension & benefits programs in at the site, ensuring competitiveness in the marketplace and making recommendations as appropriate.

  • Will assess needs and work proactively with management to define programs and plans to comply with AS9100 and CMMI requirements.

  • Provide direction and coaching to management and employees on effective resolution of employee relations and performance issues. Manages company departure process.

  • Identifies and interprets legal requirements affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. Advises management on legislative changes affecting HR programs.

  • Conduct research regarding human resources issues and trends. Recommends proactive programs, procedures and plans to improve employee satisfaction.

  • Manage and motivates assigned staff, plans and establish goals & objectives, evaluates performance and provides on-going feedback.

  • Will serve as a close advisor to the head of HR and will be a key team member of the DS HR Team.

  • Strong analytical skills and advanced level Excel user with demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective program, policies, processes and systems.

  • Attention to detail is an important aspect of this position.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, matrix organization yet be a strong relationship builder.

  • Will be a member of the site's Sr. Staff and must demonstrate HR value in all work related venues.

  • Experience with pay equity audits a plus.

  • Experience in training adult learners using a program such as DDI is a plus.



Education/Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

  • 7-10 years of experience in Human Resources, with 3 years supervisory/management

  • Professional HR designation desired
