Job Description

Title: Innovation Engineer

Location: Danbury CT or US home office 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide project/process leadership to team problem solving, identifying new project opportunities and guiding the development of the initiatives through engineering, research, and prototyping.

  • Manage technical resources for projects from ideation through commercialization with minimal direction and works closely with broader cross-functional team throughout the phase gate process.

  • Makes presentations (verbal and written) to technical, manufacturing, and business leadership to sell ideas, propose new projects, and report on projects.

  • Serve as technical interface with marketing/innovation team; help translate consumer insights into technical and design parameters.Provide technical support for newly developed products and for optimization of existing products.

  • Develop, write, implement, and submit and/or present various technical reports to support new product technology.

  • Utilize project plans to set team priorities, deliver on project milestones, prepare for contingencies and find solutions to technical barriers and obstacles.

  • Support product claims and protects intellectual property through collaboration with legal, substantiation through technical testing and research reports.

  • Develops prototype ranging from mock-ups through functional and aesthetic models.

  • Develop technical cost models and product specifications.

  • Keep abreast of evolving technologies that impact our business and communicate the implications to the business lead team and across functional teams.

  • Develop Innovation Cooperatives with key Utilities and Plants

  • Maintain close business relationships with plant cooperative members

  • Development of new innovative products

  • Perform Outage Observations

  • Assist the sales force to present new innovative products

  • Coordinate with the CWND Innovation Teams

  • Assist in the generation of proposals as needed

  • Participate in the design process of new products

  • To champion the concept of cross-product development between organizations

  • To attend and/or present at industry innovation forums 


  • BS or MS required in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical, or Nuclear

  • 10-12 years' experience in product development working with cross-functional team developing and commercializing new products preferably within the nuclear power industry

  • Commercial nuclear power plant experience necessary

  • Expertise working with a variety of material substrates including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, shielding materials, plastic, composites and sustainable materials

  • Familiarity with U.S. nuclear regulatory requirements

  • Strong computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project

  • Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to translate technical findings across functions with varying levels of technical expertise

  • Strong ability to organize and manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Ability to obtain unescorted access at a nuclear facility

  • MBA or Advanced Degree a plus

  • Willing to travel up to 50% for business
