Position Description: Mechanical Engineer

Provide Mechanical Engineering expertise for new design projects, customer inquiries and proposals, and in support of production jobs. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles and practical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing practices. The engineer in this position will be required to support a variety of product design and production activities. The individual must be self-motivated with self-directed development goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand customer specifications for equipment and translate these into detailed design requirements.

  • Prepare preliminary designs and provide design packages to drafting for creation of detail part, mechanical assembly, and circuit card assembly drawings. Review drawings for accuracy and completeness and release to meet project schedules. Perform tolerance analyses to assure part fit and assembly function. Create and maintain bills-of-materials.

  • Evaluate third-party drawings and documents and support procurement and production for build-to-print jobs.

  • Perform work assignments in a timely and quality manner under the leadership of an engineering manager.

  • Act as an effective team member, exhibiting good inter-personal skills (conflict resolution, integrity, honesty).

  • Perform analytical evaluation of designs -- e.g. structural, thermal, fluid flow, vibration, shock.

  • Create and revise engineering and manufacturing drawings, specifications, and material requirements.

  • Provide general manufacturing and shop support that includes timely and technically correct dispositioning of on-site and off-site Non Conformance Reports (NCRs). Participate in supplier and customer meetings and presentations.

  • Perform work in accordance with procedures and instructions, CW policies, safety, environmental, and security rules and guidelines.


  • Experience in an engineering design environment.

  • Experience in creating and reviewing engineering drawings, reports, and other documentation.

  • Knowledge of drafting standards and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and ability to work well with assemblers and other manufacturing personnel.

  • Ability to interface with and provide technical support to subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Experience with machined parts and welded assemblies is strongly desired.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to solve real world problems

  • Experience in the use of CAD tools and 3D modeling software (experience with PTC CREO strongly desired)

  • Minimum of four years work experience dealing with the manufacture and design of engineered products


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable

  • U.S. Citizenship required
