The Opportunity: Prep Technician

In conjunction with Technicians and Engineers in the Metallurgy Dept., section, mount and prepare metallurgical specimens using industry-standard equipment and tools. With appropriate chemical safety training, work with chemicals such as acids to etch specimens for microstructural evaluation. With appropriate training, perform basic metallurgical evaluations to improve the quality of preparation activities. Perform lab and equipment maintenance and housekeeping, including periodic preventative maintenance as assigned. Maintain a high level of quality and participate in ensuring a safe work environment

Deliverables:

• Follow written IMR procedures, applicable industry standards, and customer-supplied specifications and methods to properly prepare metallurgical mounts
• Follow IMR's quality procedures and maintain a high level of quality.
• Provide adequate turnaround time to persons assigning work.
• Maintain a safe working environment.
• Provide reliable and timely support for the Metallurgy Dept. and other departments as needed.

Qualifications:

• 1-year experience in a similar role
• Knowledge of MS Office and computer-based interfaces.
• Organization and minimal presentation skills.
• Ability to handle multiple opportunities and meet strict deadlines.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step written and/or oral instructions.
• Ability to use hand tools and benchtop equipment.
• High school diploma required. Associates degree or technical/trade school preferred.
