The Opportunity | Principal Hardware Engineer, Ashburn, VA 


The Principal Hardware Engineer is responsible for all aspects of hardware development within an embedded systems environment. The individual will drive activities including requirements definition, design capture, debugging, testing, documenting, and support. The successful candidate will provide architecture, requirements definition, team mentoring and team leadership. 


Your Challenge



  • Drive and Manage the design, development and test of new embedded Hardware

  • Lead and Mentor HW engineers in the development and test of new embedded Hardware

  • Apply established development processes and assist in process improvement

  • Lead Architecture analysis from marketing and engineering requirements and develop design alternatives

  • Supervise engineers to ensure complete and accurate user and design documentation

  • Drive and manage architecture and design reviews

  • Seek out and engage vendors of new technologies and products

  • Keep current with embedded Hardware trends and share knowledge

  • Supervise design verification of products

  • Supervise the release of manufacturing technical data packages for products

  • Ensure you maintain a positive and productive atmosphere within the team

  • Must be a Self Starter, Highly Motivated engineer with desire to lead teams.


Your Expertise


  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent. Masters Preferred




  • 10+ yrs Board level development experience utilizing high speed digital circuits and/or FPGAs is required




  • Experience with board level development process is required




  • Experience with extended temperature design testing is desired




  • Experience with Hardware engineering processes and standards, and product configuration management system is required




  • Experience with design capture tools (preferably Mentor Graphics) is required




  • Experience with signal integrity analysis tools and measurement (preferably ANSYS or Mentor tools) is an asset




  • Experience with Hardware debugging and diagnostic tools -- Digital Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, DVMs is required




  • Experience with requirements capture, analysis and tracking is required




  • Proven communication/interpersonal skills




  • Strong sense of responsibility, commitment to quality and achieving deadlines
