The Opportunity
Curtiss-Wright is looking for a Production Engineering Team Leader to join our state-of-the-art facility by Bournemouth Airport. We are looking for an energetic individual who is looking to further their management experience by managing a small, productive team while being responsible for driving change management across the department.
The successful Production Engineering Team Lead will have a proven background ideally from the Aviation / Aerospace industry and be passionate about inspiring change, process improvement and relationship building. You will be looking for an opportunity to bring forward exciting ideas to Management to continue in leading the department success. With strong problem-solving abilities and the desire to create a forward-thinking culture this will be an integral role in the department.
Your Challenge

  • Lead a team that

  • Plans and implements the introduction of product from engineering into manufacturing

  • Defining the standard of manufacture

  • Provides technical support for products and test equipment (including interface to engineering)

  • Plans and implements improvements for the manufacture and repair of products (CI Projects)

  • Accountable for Manufacturing Efficiency

  • Product Introduction to Assembly Shop

  • Defines the standards -- QS / RS / Build Manuals / Routings / Process Notes

  • Defines Resource Requirements (Test equipment and labour)

  • Manufactures Initial Production Quantities offline to define process

  • Facilitates Continuous Improvement (Lean and 6 sigma) through Operations Team to improve processes and mitigate risk

  • Ensure Operations department is current with industry standards (ISO9001, AS9100, ......) and AMT

  • Monitors and Improves Assembly and Repair Performance to drive efficiency

  • Quality Cost Monitoring, investigation and improvement (Rework, Scrap, FTY)

  • Technical Interface with engineering on product and obsolescence issues

  • Operations first port of call on product issues

  • Test Equipment Design, manufacture and Maintenance (Low level TE Design)

  • Key MOPs -- Quality Costs (Rework, Scrap, FYT), Lead time accuracy, TE up time,

  • Provides technical support for products and test equipment (including interface to engineering)

  • Responsible for the design, manufacture and maintenance of test equipment

  • Performance reviews, training and development

  • Ensure team compliance with health and safety requirements

  • Lead participative manner, promoting suggestions and ideas, involving all team members in appropriate decision-making processes
Your Expertise
Essential Criteria:

  • HND/HNC Electronic Engineering or higher, or equivalent related experience

  • Proven Management experience and proven Production Engineering experience

  • Leader of team and change

  • Proactive, enthusiastic and highly self-motivated, able to work without supervision

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across all areas of the business

  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and present solutions to Management

  • Experience successfully delivering to new ideas and processes to teams

  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure

  • Flexible to meet the needs of the business, out of hours and weekend working may be required

  • Committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Desirable Criteria:

  • Aerospace or related industry experience

  • Qualification in Management to Level 3 or above (CMI Certificate in Management or equivalent) or equivalent Management experience

  • Possess good programming skills across a variety of hardware

  • Experience in the specification and design of Data Acquisition or Automated Test Systems would be advantageous
