The opportunity | Software Development Intern

Our Scientech office in Berwick PA develops and maintains computer applications specializing in software for nuclear power plants. We have many software in every nuclear power plant in the country and many worldwide. Our application uses .NET, Java, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, and PL/SQL, all running against Oracle and SQL Server databases.

We are interested in Computer Science or Computer Engineering students.

  • Position will be a full-time, temporary intern position for the spring of 2019, with the possibility of an extension into 2019 and can be on a part-time basis

  • Position will be in Berwick, PA

  • Candidates that successfully complete an internship program may be eligible for a full-time permanent position, subject to position availability

During our internship, the intern will be exposed to each of these applications and development platforms while having several issues assigned to them. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to learn our patching process which includes source control, several testing phases, quality controlled documentation, and test plan writing.

Once the intern is comfortable with our applications and process, additional responsibility will be given which may include:

- Provide technical support to staff and customers by testing software and hardware products

- Maintain software documentation

- Respond and follows-up on internal and external customer support problems

- Design, code, test, develop, and document new application programs

- Work with users to define system scope and objectives

- Test resulting instructions and identify erroneous coding and inadequate test plans

- Perform modifications to and maintenance of operational programs and procedures

- Assist users in the operation of our applications


  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, preferable in computer science or computer engineering

  • Experience of using C/C++/C# and/or .NET development

  • Experience of using ASP.NET for developing web applications

  • Experience using the Visual Studio platform required

  • A good understanding of Oracle SQL, MS SQL

  • Good analytical skills
