The Opportunity | Sr. Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer

Curtiss-Wright is looking for a Sr. Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Shelby, NC facility of Curtiss Wright is a part of the Industrial Division. We produce design and produce Actuators for the Aerospace market. Qualified candidates will be able to develop mechanical and electro-mechanical actuation design solutions for aerospace and defense related projects that meet or exceed performance and cost targets, on a compressed time schedule. Coordinate work with team members from other disciplines, including electrical and mechanical designers, software engineers, test engineers, project engineers and managers. Perform control system design, select system component elements and perform system simulation modeling to predict integrated system response dynamics. Develop system architectures for integrated actuation sub-systems, and generate associated schematics, diagrams and descriptions to support contracted programs and new business proposals. Effectively communicate with Integrated Product Team members and customers, Program Managers, Manufacturing Engineers and production personnel.

Your challenge:

  • Preparing and implementing design/development plans for new and existing products

  • Complete product design and development in technical compliance, on time, on or ahead of budget

  • Provide timely technical and cost data for proposals and customer presentations

  • Accurate and timely reporting of project status and non-compliances

  • Effective management and control of design configurations

  • Lead technological advancements through IR&D projects

  • Identifying risks and taking appropriate action to manage and/or resolve them

  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory and export requirements

  • Able to effectively manage interpersonal issues with staff

  • Assist with preparing bids and respond to customer proposals

  • Drive cost effective designs (DTC)

Your expertise:

  • BS degree/diploma in Engineering, Advanced degree preferred

  • 5-10 years engineering experience with Electro-Mechanical control and system integration

  • Knowledge of actuation devices/components such as brushless DC motors and drives, sensors, analog and digital electronics; knowledge of their integration within subsystems

  • Experience and demonstrated capabilities in the following areas:

    • Developing, validating and documenting Matlab/Simulink system models and simulation tools

    • Performing control system analysis to achieve desired system response dynamics

    • Developing actuation subsystem architectures by interpreting higher level system requirements

    • Interpreting system level requirements and translate into component level requirements via analysis

    • Integrating mechanical, electronic and software elements to achieve overall system performance

    • Aircraft flight control and utility actuation systems, aerospace industry and military standards, customers, and requirements

    • Analog and Digital control systems analysis, design and implementation within EMA systems

    • Plan tests and analyze test data to validate component and system performance parameters

    • Customer interfacing experience preferred

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools

    • Excellent analytical, organizational and reporting skills
