Senior Welding Engineer

  • The Senior Welding Engineer is responsible for the development of welding techniques and procedures for all welding applications and/or qualifications. The Welding Engineer is also responsible for oversight of the metallurgical laboratory and production areas.
  • The individual manages the technical requirements and welding activities to comply with both Military Welding Standard NAVSEA 250-1500 and Boiler Pressure Vessel Code ASME Section IX. Experience in GTAW, PTA, and Oxyacetylene, and Welding Automation desired.
  • The individual is responsible to investigate and evaluate welding rejects and non-compliance issues. Determine appropriate cause(s) and corrective action(s). Recommends effective utilization of welding human resources and equipment to meet the Company's goals.

Location: East Farmingdale, NY

Your Challenge:

  • Develop new welding procedures, oversee performance and evaluation of weld qualifications and obtain required customer approvals of procedures and qualifications.
  • Interacts and provides technical support to welding production personnel. Investigates and evaluates welding defects to determine appropriate cause(s) and corrective action(s)
  • Primary technical interface with customers and vendors on welding issues.
  • Evaluate and implement use of new welding technology. Selects and recommends new welding equipment. Oversees procurements and installations of new equipment. Develops welding procedures and training of personnel for the utilization of new equipment.
  • Review new request for quotations for new welding requirements. Coordinates and provides Contract/Sales and/or Project Engineering with both welding plans and production welding estimates, including recommendations for new equipment, as applicable.
  • Provides oversight of weld record preparation and weld procedure and welder qualification records.
  • Interacts/participates at administrative and/or production meetings to support engineering/ manufacturing and program management.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.

Your Expertise:

  • Advanced Education and diversified background in welding. As a minimum ten (10) years of hands-on experience as a welding application engineer in a manufacturing environment where Oxyacetylene Hard surfacing, PTA, GTA x-ray quality structure and seal welding as well as LASER and electron beam welding.
  • Strength in engineering metallurgy of material properties, material specifications, pre and post heat-treatment requirements, brazing.
  • Knowledge of critical weld joints and hard surfacing deposits.

EDUCATION / TRAINING:

  • Engineering degree from ABET accredited Engineering Program.
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering with major in metallurgy, materials science or welding engineering.
  • Computer literate.
