Job Description

We are looking for a Systems Engineering Manager at our Santa Clarita, CA facility. You will report directly to Director of Engineering and require minimal supervision in achieving success at this level. You are a highly enthusiastic engineering professional with an open mind to a technical and organizational direction as well as possess exceptional communication skills, technical knowledge and presentation abilities. 


You will have responsibility for a systems engineering group that is responsible for the concept, design, and validation of embedded systems. You will plan, direct and manage all system engineering activities for the reporting unit with budget responsibility for the engineering functions managed. We will look to you to set, implement and maintain standards for the systems engineering department and insuring adequate staffing levels.

Responsibilities 



  • Influence and establish engineering best practices through solid design decisions, processes, and tools.

  • Direct investigation of equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, make recommendations and drive root cause determination

  • Estimate costs and submit bids for the department

  • Oversee and lead system architecture development and technical approach strategy

  • Perform personnel functions -- hiring/firing, interviewing, performance appraisals and department manpower analysis

  • Establish structure and task-oriented culture in the department centered around task completion and schedule adherence

  • Evaluate all available Engineering tools and needed resources for development and capability


Position Requirements 



  • Seasoned professional with demonstrated leadership experience with 10+ year of engineering experience with at least 3+ years of engineering management experience.

  • Track record of producing results, meeting financial targets, and leading product development teams

  • Experienced presenter and communicator with prior responsibility for dealing with customers, management, technical staff, and internal / external organizations.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a fast paced development environment with a number of active programs with varying program and functional priorities

  • Experience in program phases from capture through development to sustainment

  • Experience in risk and opportunity analysis, tracking and mitigation

  • Actively engages, drives change to achieve execution excellence and solve critical issues

  • Demonstrated analytical and attention to details/skills.

  • A thorough understanding of system and software design processes

  • Experienced with deployed military electronics using COTS electronics (e.g. VPX)

  • Familiarity with the latest industry technologies, such as VPX, Gen 3 PCI Express, 40GE Ethernet, 40Gb Infiniband, USB 3.0, DDR, 4 memory, etc.

  • Strong understanding of system engineering concepts and systematic problem solving skills

  • Well versed in the latest rugged/embedded technologies commonly utilized in the defense/aerospace industry

  • Strong debug/integration/troubleshooting experience -- act as a leader and a sounding board for the department


 Education



  • Bachelor degree in the technical field (Electrical / Systems / Aerospace Engineering)

  • Master Degree in a technical field and/or MBA is highly preferred
