Technical Document Specialist


The Curtiss-Wright/Peerless Instrument Documentation Department has an immediate opening for a mid-to-senior-level Technical Document Specialist. As the Technical Document Specialist you are primarily responsible for the preparation, revision, and maintenance of the company's technical documents.

Location: East Farmingdale, NY

Your Challenge:

  • Maintains the company's document templates and revises them as needed. Owns the procedural document for Word Processing.
  • Recommends and implements stylistic improvements where necessary.
  • Formats all technical publications from internal forms and procedures to complete technical manuals.
  • Produces accurate, complete, and legible materials from review-copy stage through final sign-off.
  • Creates physical deliverables as needed such as posters, signage, booklets and other bound materials.
  • Combines materials as needed from multiple sources, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, PDF, and others to create one uniform and legible deliverable.
  • Proofreads documents, discusses inconsistencies with writer.
  • Serves as writer for straightforward documentation, as needed.
  • Collaborates with Technical Writes and subject matter experts.

Your Expertise:

  • Working-level expertise of standard Microsoft applications: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio; knowledge of photo, video, and PDF editing; and TechSmith Snagit.
  • Expert in formatting and work with internal department procedures, forms, booklets, technical drawings, signage, diagrams, and this caliber of printed material.
  • Expert-level proofreader and ablity to work with internal department procedures, forms, booklets, technical drawings, signage, diagrams, and this caliber of printed material. 
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills.
  • Abiltiy to work under deadlines.
  • Aesthetic for page design.
  • Defense industry experience.
  • Due to the nature of the work performed at this facility, this role may require a DOD Government security clearance. Incumbents must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance while employed by this site.
