Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division, which includes the product brands of Arens Controls, Penny & Giles, PG Drives Technology and Williams Controls, is an excellent supplier in providing components and sub-systems which enable customer specific solutions for on- and off-highway vehicles. These include medium- and heavy-duty trucks, buses and motor coaches, construction and agricultural vehicles, materials handling, and other specialty vehicles, as well as sophisticated wheelchairs and scooters for medical mobility.

We develop and manufacture electronic throttle controls, transmission shifters and sensors for commercial off-highway equipment and heavy trucks, helping to address the long-term trend towards attaining higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions. We also supply operator controls and advanced motor controllers for hybrid and electric vehicles, such as buses, forklift trucks, pallet stackers, wheelchairs, and rehabilitation chairs.

Curtiss-Wright is looking for an Electronics Buyer to join our team in Bournemouth at our state-of-the-art facility, reporting to the Purchasing Manager of our Industrial Division. Working closely with internal and external business partners you will be dealing with a high mix high volume of electronic components. The successful candidate will have experience with NPI and the ability to find innovative ways of problem solving. You will be self-motivated and passionate about quality.

Your Challenge:

  • Procurement of 'bought-out components', products and services of the right type, from the right place at the right time, with quality and cost considerations in line with the Company objectives
  • Proactively forge relationships with suppliers and customers to purchase goods to required timescales to achieve Customer Service Levels in excess of 98%
  • Accurate maintenance of purchasing data on the Integrated Business System
  • Support and co-ordinate NPI activities for department
  • Deliver cost improvements
  • Contribute to maintenance and management of supplier performance KPI's
  • Comply with the requirements defined by the Quality Management System
  • Obtain necessary approval and generate documentation for accurate and timely procurement of goods
  • Monitor the status of purchase orders / deliveries and resolve problems and potential problems proactively and promptly
  • Negotiate terms and conditions to win / win solutions that enhance the strategic position of vendor, company and customer
  • Work with other business units to develop the supply chain that enhance the strategic position of vendor, company and customer
  • Monitor and improve supplier performance (delivery, price and quality)
  • Reduce supplier base via preferred suppliers / supplier partnerships
  • Develop and implement plans to reduce the total cost and lead time of materials and supply whilst maintaining quality
  • Interface with other departments to resolve problems
  • Represent Procurement as required in new product / design reviews

Your expertise:

  • Proven experience as an Electronics Buyer including experience with NPI
  • Ability to carry out all activities in a disciplined and professional manner
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently and persuasively with a wide variety of people internally & externally.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards within work area in line with company 6S standards.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Flexible as some out of hours, weekend working and travel (UK & International) may be required.
