The Opportunity | Quality Engineer

Implement and maintain quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products. Responsible for planning, implementing, and managing compliance of manufacturing and production processes with internal and external safety, quality and regulatory standards requirements for worldwide distribution. Responsible for identifying and raising quality issues and for speedily resolving them to ensure zero impact to the customer. Work in a team environment to develop and implement best practices that emphasize defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements in meeting all customer requirements. Manage the customer specific requirements and offer technical support. May prepare and provide product assurance documentation as required by customer programs.

Your Challenge

  • Support manufacturing and quality process improvement projects as an effective team member or leader using Continuous Improvement tools.
  • Track and identify key failure modes and waste removal opportunities throughout the manufacturing value stream.
  • Lead projects focused on quality system, product quality and service quality improvements.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop effective quality improvement plans to resolve quality issues that arise as quickly and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality and safety standards.
  • Lead customer notification investigations for escapes and customer experience product improvement projects in focus areas strategic to Curtiss Wright.
  • Determine root causes and implementing and/or coordinating the implementation of effective corrective/preventive actions.
  • Integrate performance and conformance verifications such as First Articles and audits throughout value stream processes to prevent quality escapes, optimize throughput and assure on-time delivery of products and services.
  • Guide and promote the use of techniques for continuous improvement such as Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Fish-Bone Diagrams, 5-Whys Analysis, 8D, and DMIAC among other tools.
  • Mentor shop personnel and partner with manufacturing engineering team to consider quality & Lean/Six Sigma when developing quality plans.
  • Promotes an atmosphere of diversity, open communication, and trust, affording opportunities for training and growth.
  • Remains flexible to the needs of the business and performs other functions as required.
  • Performs other functions as required.

Your Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience as a Quality Engineer
  • Experience in the Valves or Automotive industry preferred
  • Ability to exercise substantial initiative/judgement in work methods and interpreting objectives
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment;
  • Strong planning and prioritizing skill
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Negotiation skills and ability to present data effectively
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Analytical skills with knowledge of MS Excel.
