We are looking for a hands-on, self-motivated software expert to lead our Software Engineering team. Leading a dynamic group of Software Engineers, you and your team will be accountable for the design, development and verification of software deliverables for our products.

This position requires a highly qualified professional with a proven track record of managing and leading a team to success. You will be the face of the Software team and will collaborate with Engineering, Customer Support, Sales and Marketing; all working together to support our customers' requirements.

Your Challenge:

  • Responsible for the career development, training and performance evaluations of staff allocated to the Software Team.

  • Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood; performance measurement objectives are identified, measured and monitored, and provides positive feedback on accomplishments

  • Establishes effective practices to attract, develop, motivate and retain high calibre staff

  • Provides and arranges mentorship for members of the Software Development Team

  • Promote quality standards and procedures and create a work environment of continuous improvement

  • Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality

  • Manage 3rd party relationships and coordination of work for cross site initiatives

  • Supports all phases of product development by attending key reviews to ensure software needs are met during new product design.

  • Provides guidance to software developers as to design protocols, product specification development, desired functionality for new system level features

  • Reviews testing protocols for compliance with accepted standards and verifies testing results to ensure the desired functionality has been achieved

  • Promotes and participates in enhancing the Software Development Process

  • Participate in bid/project activities such as developing technical proposals and providing detailed cost and schedule estimates.

  • Pre and Post-Sales support when needed by the Product Marketing or Customer Support

  • Establish a mission, goals and objectives for the overall SW Team and execute to it

Your Expertise:

  • Experience with Real-time software development, trouble shooting and testing under multiple RTOS

  • Ability to architect innovative and complex SW solutions and communicate these ideas confidently through written and verbal skills

  • Familiarity with VME, VPX, compact PCI, PMC/XMC mezzanines, PCIe, RapidIO and VxWorks an asset

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with a minimum of 8 years' experience, or an equivalent education and complementary experience.

  • Ability to estimate/schedule development projects

  • Demonstrated drive and ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business need

  • The candidate should be a results-oriented team player who leads by example, holds themselves accountable for performance, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and champions process improvement initiatives

  • Outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills - both written and verbal; to liaise with internal and external customers

  • Self- confident leader capable of motivating and mentoring their staff

  • High attention to detail and solid engineering background
