Duration: Full-Time Spring Semester: January -- April 2020 (14-16 weeks); Pay range $19-20/hour

Job Summary

Participates in team-based cross-functional teams to collaborate on assembly, testing, lean, EHS and machining to develop a wide range of experience. Creates, coordinates and implements supporting fixtures and equipment. Develops plant layouts, evaluates trends and ensures employee & product safety. Participates in Lean events. Utilizes AutoCAD to maintain an updated Plant Layout. Will also support other projects and initiatives as necessary.

The Challenge

  • Supports the evaluation of machining, assembly, & test processes by conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, conferring with manufacturing engineers, and soliciting observations from assembly/test operators/production technicians.

  • Follows and establishes safe processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing assembly/machining methods and equipment; and conferring with equipment suppliers. Prepares/Updates written and graphical work instructions to communicate assembly/test requirements to production personnel.

  • Improves assembly/test efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and establishing and implementing "design for manufacture and assembly" plans.

  • Recommends and upholds changes to machining/assembly/test processes by analyzing production needs, labor standards, and material costs, reviewing production schedules, and estimating future requirements.

  • Ability to design test fixtures and other manufacturing tools. Follow a documented process to learn machining/assembly/test and promotes safety related to the work area.

  • Utilizes root cause analysis of test failures and recommends/implements corrective actions as required.


  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechanical Technology or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

  • Someone entering junior or senior year preferred

Other Requirements/Skills/Abilities:

  • Lifting 50 lbs, Standing, Sitting

  • Demonstrated mechanical knowledge and understanding to support assembly, test and machining departments through hobbies, clubs and activities.

  • Must have good communication skills and be a willingness to work as a team player.

  • Ability to work on a variety of technical problems of diverse scope and complexity where analysis and evaluation of various outcomes require tradeoffs; solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams.

  • Work as a team player.

  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Creo or SolidWorks preferred).

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
